New this year

This year’s US Open begins on a Sunday for the first time, extending the tournament to a full 15 days. ABC will carry the first three hours of play on Sunday, August 24, one of three broadcast network windows — including round of sixteen action the following Sunday (August 31) and the men’s final on September 7.

In another major change this year, the mixed doubles competition has been altered and moved up to the week of qualifying in an effort to secure participation from the sport’s most famous players. The mixed doubles competition is set to air in primetime on ESPN2 August 20.
